ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – A tsunami packing little punch rolled
through Alaska waters but was hardly noticeable to residents in
coastal communities on Saturday.
Alaska Homeland Security Director John Madden said there were no
reports of damage.
Because of that, state emergency managers were able to view
Saturday’s event as a test of tsunami plans that have been put in
place in coastal communities.
He says he was pleased with the results. The alert systems
worked. The communities invoked their plans. And they were ready
for changes if the advisory in Alaska had been elevated.
At the Seward Boat Harbor, administrative assistant Jen Kain
said they didn’t get even as much as a little wave in town.
She called the event “mellow,” with not even any boats
rocking.
