The State of Alaska’s courts have increased fees; that revenue will not go towards Alaska’s Court system but instead be deposited into the state’s general fund.
The Alaska Court System Rule of Administration was amended to increase filing and copying fees in early August.
The amendment to that administrative rule that governs the fees for Alaska courts was considered before the state was in its current budget crisis but it’s recent passage will help with the deficit.
Copying fees increased from 25 cents per page to $5 per document and $2 for every additional document requested at the same time.
A new rule known as Civil Rule 5.3 is being considered as well and could be the key to record access without the paper: electronic distribution to attorneys, agencies, private organizations, etc.
The public may comment on that proposed rule until August 24.
