Alaska’s Lieutenant Governor Mead Treadwell is currently in Washington D.C., speaking to global investors, and said ““as an ‘emerging market’, the Arctic is hot right now.”
Treadwell has been speaking about the four most significant investment opportunities in Alaska: polar transport by air, sea and space; energy and mineral development; fishing; and tourism.
Treadwell said he feels Alaska’s “on the front lines, [and] must think like a nation.”
A statement from the Lt. governor’s office indicated Alaska is seeking to attract close to $100 billion for energy projects, for which Arctic nations could work together and promote investment.
Another boost for the economy, new air connections with Iceland and Russia are promoting tourism, while the fishing industry has a catch value of $4.7 billion in Alaska alone.
