AK Congressional Delegation Blasting FDA Genetically Modified Salmon Finding
Alaska’s Congressional Delegation is blasting another regulatory action that clears the way for a new industry, namely genetically modified salmon.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration released a finding Friday that the Aquabounty Salmon, which grows twice as fast as normal salmon, would pose no threat to health or the environment.
U.S. Senator Mark Begich called the safety finding a “joke” and Congressman Don Young calls the FDA’s Determination “Foolish and Disturbing.” He says the fish, which would be farmed in British Columbia and Panama, would threaten Alaska’s wild salmon.
