The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has announced closures that will go into effect for king salmon fishing on the Kenai River.
Robert Begich, Sport Fisheries Biologist with the Soldotna Office of Fish and Game…
Begich: “Later today, the Department is going to announce the closure of the Kenai River to king salmon fishing for the early run though June 30th. That will also have some restrictions that will prevent king salmon fishing in what we call the middle Kenai River from Slikok Creek at about river-mile 18 all the way up to river-mile 50 to Skilak Lake though July 14th. And then also, we will be prohibiting bait on the Kasilof River sport fisheries so that anglers can still keep a hatchery king down there, but bait will be prohibited in that fishery as well.”
Begich said that the King run, at this point, looks below forecast and will have these closures in place until July.
