ADF&G Suggests Trading King Trips for Trout

Robert Begich, Area Management Biologist for the Alaska Dept. Fish & Game’s sportfishing division, said King returns are low, and local fishermen might have a better time in a different fishery…

Begich: “Monday was the drift boat only day on the Kenai. Very slow. Yesterday seemed slower still with a lot more boats out there, a lot less boats than we’d see on a good King year, and this morning here more of the same, so I would maybe not worry about Kings for now and pay attention to the Sockeye estimates at the sonar and also Kasilof Sockeye,so that’s what is on the radar for the holiday weekend.”

Begich also suggested trout fishing in the Kenai drainage and local lakes.
