BP Nominations Closing Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the last day for make a nomination for the BP Teachers of Excellence program. We asked Julie Hasquet with BP, how many teachers on average are named a Teacher of Excellence…

Hasquet: “Well we try to recognize teachers in sort of the major areas, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Mat-Su, and Kenai, and then we have a statewide category. So over all, there’s probably, 20-30 teachers who get picked for Teachers of Excellence, and then there’s teacher of the years named for each area.”

Seven Kenai Peninsula teachers were recognized last year. Dr. Steve Atwater made the announcement…

Dr. Atwater: “We want to congratulate our Kenai Peninsula BP Teacher’s of Excellence, Susan Biggs, Renee Merkes, Robert Sparks, Greg Zorbas, Donna Austin, Myla Liljemark, and Lyn Maslow. All are going to be recognized on May 1st, we’re very proud of them, thanks for all the good work.”

Each BP Teacher of Excellence receives a $500 gift card and an award certificate. An additional $500 is awarded to the winner’s school or PTA group.
